Heaven is For Real-- Inspiring Start

Hello All!

I have just recently started a new novel called Heaven is For Real, by Todd Burpo. He tells the story of how his son went to heaven and back during surgery. So far I have read about Todd's mischief and through all the struggles he faced. That year his son went through surgery, Todd broke his knee in half, got a kidney stone, and almost had breast cancer. I couldn't get over how bad his luck was. This was also pretty interesting to me, because I didn't know men could get breast cancer; he was very manly too having a wrestling and playing soccer. Him, his two kids Colton and Cassie, and his wife Sonja went on a trip to celebrate his recovery and learn about church life in different areas since his dad was a priest. Along the way Colton got really sick, throwing up every 30 minutes.
This began it all. So far I have heard his whole story on how his appendix had burst and he was very very close to death. I have also heard how strange he has been acting ever since worrying if people had taken Jesus in their heart before they died at funerals, telling his parents to pay Jesus back for saving him, and so on. All this became so weird to me. First of all, the kid is 3 and a half so he definitely couldn't have known all this information about going to heaven only if you love Jesus and what John the Baptist looks like. I don't think I learned all this until at least 2nd or 3rd grade. Some people can say he knows this from his dad or Sunday school, that he's just a kid and making it up, or even that his dad is exaggerating; but i most definitely believe this kid met Jesus. I can't wait to read more about what heaven looks like and who he met during his quick adventure. To me, this is like a more interesting and kid friendly convincing Bible. Nothing is boring me or confusing me; it's just a kid telling me his own adventure through death.

Thanks for reading, Taylor

  1. Taylor, I have been wanting to read this book for a while now, you will have to tell me how it goes. It sounds really good so keep me updated on how it goes. I really need to start reading again for the 150 minutes since we are done with Nervous Conditions, maybe I'll read this.
